The ProjectThis project was done in my Community Engagement class. Over the course of our third quarter, we had a number of guest speakers come into the class to talk to us about the community, and organizations that help it. One of these organizations was Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation, or HARF. They began regularly visiting the class, and we were assigned group a project were we had to help HARF with their presence in the media via a video, or by other means, such as social media.

ReflectionFor the this project, I feel the 21st century skill that best applies is the Civic Literacy and Engagement skill. We had to engage with a local business that helps our community. By helping HARF to have more of a media presence, we allowed them to reach out more and have a bigger impact on the community. HARF helps a lot of animals from being killed, and helps them find new homes all across Hawaii, and the more they can do that the better.
As far as this project goes, I am proud of how much my group was actually able to help the people at HARF. My group and I decided to go with social media, rather then creating a video. Said social media was Twitter. We put together a presentation to talk to one of HARFs main employees and explain to them the innerworkings of the sight, and how to run an account. The woman who we met with, Dawn, gave us a note saying that we did a great job with our presentation, and that we were very helpful. If I could go back and do this project again, I would have tried to help my group more. We got a great grade, and I feel as though I didn't put in the work to earn this grade. I helped out, but my group mates when above and beyond while I feel I did the bare minimum to help with the presentation. Most of my actual part of the presentation was improvised, because I didn't even help put together most of the information. So, all and all, I wish I could have been more useful to my group. |
