The Project |
Reflection |
For this project we had to do research on a Hawaiian Honeycreeper of our choice. The point of the project was to see how adaptive radiation affected a species of Hawaiian Honeycreeper, and where they evolved from. The task was to write a paper from the point of view of the Honeycreeper of your choice, and explain how the environment affected them to get to where they are now. We also had to create an accurate phylogenetic tree, displaying the birds evolution.

This project reflected my abilities well I would say. It required me to use my creativity, do research, design something, and overall covered quite bit. The project was a final, and it was a good way to wrap up all that we learned about over the quarter.
This project was challenging in the way that I had to find a way to be scientific in a first person point of view. Usually when writing a scientific paper, you are told to never use 'I' or 'me', so writing the paper using those adverbs a lot was challenging. I wanted the essay to also have at least a bit of characterization, rather then just stating fact after fact, in hopes to make the paper a bit more interesting to read. I wouldn't do much different for this project if I had to do it again. Even in terms if time management, I did much of the project during the later periods of the specified duration, and I was still able to get everything done just fine. 21st Century Skill
This project required me to work with a lot of information. A lot of research had to go into finding all the necessary information in understanding what elements cause evolution to happen the way it did. That along with the phylogenetic tree. It required me to apply that information in creative ways I hadn't before.
